OCEAN SKILLS WORKSHOP
Kayak Surfing, Rock Hopping, Incident Management
Having a chance to train in open water for 2 days is the best way to take your kayaking skills to the next level and become a confident coastal kayaker. We have taken our two most popular intermediate classes and paired them together to do just that at a significantly discounted rate. This intermediate program launches from two of our most favorite coastal launch spots in Narragansett and Jamestown with quick access to challenging areas to play and train on.
On day one, our experienced instructors will challenge your skills and comfort levels to increase your overall knowledge and performance in our Surfing The Long Boat program. You will be introduced to ocean swell, ocean surf, tidal currents and shore break.
Day two delivers the complete open water kayaking experience with our advanced Rock Hopping & Incident Management program. We will work on skills like boat control in wind and waves, landing and launching in the surf, and negotiating rocks and ledges. Working on rough water rescues in groups will help you relax, enhance your overall comfort level and enjoy this fantastic environment. As the day progresses and your confidence grows, we’ll explore rolling, bracing and advanced rescues.
Combining these advanced paddling skills with risk assessment training and open water navigation will give you a greater understanding of ocean conditions and give you all the skills and knowledge you need to paddle the coastline with confidence for years to come.
