Combining a lot of random interests isn't easy, but Adam Sherlip seems to find a way to mix his passions for awesome gadgetry, hockey and tea into his life. As the first "Gadget Guru" for Eastern Mountain Sports, Adam works closely with product managers and vendors to ensure customers get the most appropriate tech tools for their global adventures. As the Founder and Executive Director of The Hockey Foundation, Adam uses ice hockey to help improve the quality of life in the Himalayas, field testing all of the gadgets he gets to work with at Eastern Mountain Sports in NYC, stopping at every tea shop and plantation on the way.
Alec lived on the coast for most of his life, but recently moved to the mountains of Conway, NH with his fiancé Sarah. His passions are rock climbing, kayaking and canoeing (both white water and flat), sailing, telemark skiing, along with his new love of ice climbing. Honestly, he just likes being outside and having adventures, big or small. He has a degree in Environmental Science and Studies and is a NOLS graduate from one of their outdoor educators programs.
Aleya Littleton is a self-diagnosed gear addict and migrant teacher specializing in science, climbing, and moving at the drop of a hat. She spent three years at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, and this spring packed her car and drove to Colorado. She moved to merge her passion for teaching with her love of the great outdoors through writing and adventure therapy. In the past year she began leading trad, climbed Devils Tower, won $10,000 and then gave it all away. She tweets as @AleyaJean and blogs at Rock and Sky
Alison O'Leary Murray has the decline of print journalism to thank for recent opportunities to pursue mountain biking, hiking, climbing, and just about any other outdoor activity that crosses her plate. A mother of four girls, she travels, sails, and tries to squeeze in a few hours a week to work at the Eastern Mountain Sports store in Marlborough, MA to feed her habit.
A former captain of the University of North Carolina track team, Amy now spends her days influencing young minds as a second grade teacher. By night she influences the outdoors as an EMS guide in Waterford, CT. Somewhere in between, she finds time to get outdoors to ride her bike, kayak, and hike. Her favorite hike was to the crater rim of Mt. St. Helens where she witnessed a steaming lava dome and she some day hopes to summit Mt. Rainier.
Andy Howard grew up in the woods of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and learned at an early age that skiing and bike riding in the trees can be fun. After living in North Carolina and Georgia, he eventually found his way back to New England and now lives in the Boston area where he balances a legal career with his love for exploration and adventure. Ashley Reven and Tim Peck are our Spring 2011 Outdoor Demo Tour Drivers. From early May thru late June, Tim and Ashley will be stopping at ponds, parks, and beaches throughout the North East so you can try the latest outdoor gear. Both Ashley and Tim are passionate rock and ice climbers who typically spend their days and evenings working at our Millbury and Marlborough, MA stores. Ashley graduated from Clark University with a history degree, is a civil war nerd, and can't cook. Tim is a Northeastern grad and a confirmed cat whisperer/former child model who's preadolescent face graced the pages of catalogs from defunct department stores Rich's, Caldor, and Bradlees. Brewed fresh in the mountains of Vermont, Eastern Mountain Sports Local Marketing Specialist Ben Hall has gone so far as to boldly proclaim the fact that he is rocking in the good times! The father of two and husband of one finds his inspiration in the form of mountain biking, skiing, and freelance BS'ing. His favorite food is Ben & Jerry’s and Long Trail floats, and his favorite color is green. If you see him driving by, wave to MTBBEN, you can’t miss him, he kind of resembles a yeti!
Ben White is a natural born adventurer from Essex, Massachusetts. During the winter of 2010/2011, he set out to hike and ski the NH 48. He finished 6 days before his 18th birthday. While he has been known to ski naked, Ben loves testing out different clothing, from base layers to parkas. When he isn't skiing, he's mountain biking or hiking. His love for mountains has dragged him out to the University of Utah, where he is currently studying civil engineering, with an interest in working for a ski lift manufacturer.
Beth's love of skiing and summer camp led her to a career in the outdoors. After spending 13 summers at Girl Scout camp on Lake Winnipesaukee, obtaining degrees in wildlife & environmental education, and working 4 years with NH Project Learning Tree, Beth joined Eastern Mountain Sports. As marketing manager, she handles events, sponsorships, new store openings, conservation projects, and more. On the weekends, Beth and her husband, daughter, and dog can be found roaming the mountains, waters, and woods of Northern New England.
