Introducing the “Jack-cat”

Kitty outerwear takes Facebook by storm

Shortly after we announced that we were the new official outfitter of the Mount Washington Observatory, we posted some photographs on our Facebook page of the staff decked out in their new gear. In the days that followed, we received the same question from several fans: “What about Marty?”

Marty is a six-year old (or so) long-haired black cat. He’s also the observatory’s lone year-round resident who enjoys exploring the summit of the tallest peak of New England whenever the World’s Worst Weather permits. What started as a joke in a marketing meeting evolved quickly into a challenge for Jennifer O’Connor in our product design team. After Brian Clark from the observatory bravely acquired Marty’s complete measurements, Jen-O set to to work and in a single weekend, converted one of our Mercury Jackets into a fully functional cat suit, complete with interior pocket. The photos became an instant hit on both the EMS Facebook fan page and the MWOBS fan page. Our sincere thanks to Mike Bray who coined the “jack-cat” phrase that we’re totally running with today. Will Marty’s new jack-cat capture the attention of Animal Planet? We’ll see what our friends at PrimaLoft can do about that. All we care about is that Marty has a little extra warmth on his outdoor adventures and a lot of people enjoyed an LOL moment.

Awesome, but where are the EMS puss-in-boots?
