Spring Schools Preview: New SUP programs and events!
Despite the fact that today is the last day of the third snowiest February in New Hampshire history and we’ll be dealing with snow in the mountains well into March and April, my staff and I at Eastern Mountain Sports Schools are getting psyched for spring and stand up paddleboarding season. If you’re new to us, the first thing you need to know is that in addition to stand up paddleboard programs, we also offer rock climbing and kayaking instruction as well as cycling programs for all abilities. I’ll be talking about our seasonal plans for those sports in a later update, but right now, it’s time to talk about SUP and some exciting additions to our spring and summer programs.
Sunrise, Sunset and Moonlight Stand Up Paddle Tours
As I wrote earlier this year, Stand Up Paddleboarding is shaping up to become one of our most popular programs. New for 2013, we set off on these two hour tours in Newport, RI and Hyannis, MA at the most beautiful times to be out on the water. The only thing better than watching the sun come up on a stand up paddleboard is watching the sun set on a stand up paddleboard!
Stand up paddling is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and we are excited to be bringing you two of the fastest growing aspects of the sport: SUP fitness and SUP racing.
A Stand Up Paddle Fitness Classes
Whether you’re a serious SUP’er looking to increase your fitness or a gym rat looking for a killer workout, our SUP FIT and SUP Bootcamp classes will have you sweating for more. Both classes were created and are led by our outstanding personal trainer Casi Rynkowski Casi is a certified AFAA personal trainer who is an expert in training both experienced athletes as well as newbie fitness enthusiasts. Her SUP Fit classes combine paddle sprints with body weight and band exercises – all done circuit style. SUP Bootcamp is for those who want a hardcore workout featuring beach runs, kettlebells, bootcamp style drills merged with SUP exercises and core balance challenges. I train with Casi on a regular basis and I can vouch that she makes every workout a heartpounding challenge!
A Stand Up Paddle Races
If you’ve ever wanted to try racing but didn’t know where to start, join us at Lincoln Woods State Park for our Friday night SUP race series. For $10 you get to use one of our BIC race boards, an SUP paddle and a life jacket. You can particpate in as many time trials on our 1 mile race course as you like. Each week we’ll post the fastest times. At the end of the summer, the fastest male and female racers will receive a $100 Eastern Mountain Sports Gift Card!
Spring and summer are going to be incredible and I sincerely hope my staff and I have the opportunity to help you enjoy every minute in of it.
