The Dogs (and People) of Ruffwear

Gear / Outdoor Adventure (Unique lifestyle/travel/personal experience)

Last week, I said that Eastern Mountain Sports customers LOVE their dogs, a fact proven by the 430 entries we received in our Dogs On The Go photo contest powered by Ruffwear. Over the last two years, we’ve hosted 6 photo contests on our Facebook page and I’m pleased to say that this one was by far the most popular. As a special thank you to our friends at Ruffwear, I thought I’d give them a chance to show off some of their dogs. Vince Mazzucca (the man who came through with the prizes we’ll be giving away next week) got right back to me with some great pics of the Ruffwear staff in action with their four-legged friends.

Mavis and Ruffwear Founder and “Leader of the Pack” Patrick Kruse

Back in 1992, Patrick accepted the challenge from a fellow mountain biker to create a portable alternative to filling a plastic bag with water only to have a thirsty Rhodesian Ridgeback turn away after a few slurps. Twenty one years later, Ruffwear offers a comprehensive line of dog packs, boots, harnesses, toys, and of course, collapsible bowls sold all over the world including every Eastern Mountain Sports store and online at ems.com. Every product Ruffwear builds is “made to enhance and inspire outdoor adventures for dogs and their human companions.” They place a huge emphasis on canine comfort and safety which you’ll find in products like the K-9 Float Coat and the Clip-On safety light, which I freely admit to using myself on a spontaneous midnight ride through the streets of New York City last year.

Here are some other important members of the Ruffwear team, and the people who love them:

Cinder and Ruffwear President Will
Arite and Ruffwear Director of Marketing Susan
Seppi and Ruffwear Social Media Guy Vince

Jada and Ruffwear Customer Service Rep Mo

What’s your favorite outdoor activity to do with your dog? Leave us a comment and tell us about it and maybe I’ll feature your pup in an upcoming blog post because like I said, Eastern Mountain Sports customers LOVE dogs.

Jim Darroch

Jim's love for the outdoors began with family camping trips in "Brady Bunch" style canvas tents and progressed to backpacking adventures with the Boy Scouts. In 2007, he fulfilled his teenage dream by joining Eastern Mountain Sports as Brand Communications Manager. When he's not in the office, you'll find Jim kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking around the Monadnock Region and throughout New England with his wife Brenda and his dog Brewski.
